Dr. Aldred subspecializes in diseases of the retina, macula and vitreous at the Medical Center Eye Institute. He is a native of Tennessee. He obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After an internship in medicine and neurology, Dr. Aldred completed a residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, followed by additional fellowship training in retina and vitreous diseases in Jerusalem, Israel, and Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Van Aldred came to Medical Center Clinic and began practicing in Pensacola in 1982.

Dr. Aldred is a member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the largest organization of vitreoretinal surgeons. In addition, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Aldred's specialty areas include laser and microscopic surgery of the retina, vitreous and macula. Active in clinical research, he participated in the investigation of new materials for vitreoretinal surgery. He speaks at international Vitreous, Retinal Surgery meetings on a regular basis. He also instructs surgeons at teaching labs in Vitneous, Retinal Surgery techniques.

Dr. Aldred practices comprehensive ophthalmology with subspecialty interest in diseases of the vitreous, retina, and macula.
